skully, a New York City street game from the 50’s

My husband is excited.  He found the bottle caps with my late father’s name on them that I have been saving (Virgil’s, from the rootbeer) and that got him going.  He had to call his big sister in New York and see if she remembered the name of the game they played when they were kids.  It involved bottle caps with crayons melted on the inside to weigh them down.

She knew the name, skelly, so of course I had to google it and found this wonderful website which I will be adding to this site that told me everything I needed to know to make the game for my sons, nieces and nephews for Channukuh, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.  Actually, Kwanzaa is the one holiday that requires homemade gifts but I’ve sort of grouped them all together cause otherwise it’s just more than I can handle.

Anyways, check out this site.  My husband and I have now joined the “revitalize the game of skully” mission.  By the way, it is called both skelly and skully, just in case you caught what looked like an error.

Happy Holidays.
